Ayusa Summer Cultural Exploration in Germany

With the Summer Cultural Exploration program you can experience the German capital Berlin. You will have the opportunity to study German in a vibrant and historic city while experiencing a taste of German culture by living with a German family. You attend language classes, participte in organized activities, and explore Germany through guided excursions.

Once the divided city of Germany, Berlin is a fascinating combination of old and new, East and West. Its international and diverse population contributes to the unique flair the city possesses; this uniqueness is apparent in each of Berlin's different districts. No wonder that Berlin is the third most popular city in Europe for tourists. Only London and Rome attract more visitors. Take advantage of spending an unforgettable summer in this invigorating environment and immerse yourself in the German culture!

Learn

You will take intensive German courses in small groups in the mornings, Monday through Friday, from 9am-12pm. Each student will be given a placement exam upon arrival and assigned to a class of the appropriate level.

Experience

Ayusa International e.V. maintains a good balance between planned activities and free time throughout the program. Planned afternoon activities are offered 2-3 times each week. These are facilitated by the On-Site Coordinator. Sample activities include: a tour through Berlin’s underground, a climbing/rope course, an excursion to the former concentration camp Sachsenhausen, a visit in a chocolate factory and a boat trip along the Spree River.

Travel

Included in the Ayusa summer cultural exploration program, the following excursions allow students time to enjoy other notable destinations in Germany.

  • Berlin City Tour: Discover the historic sites of Germany's capital city, Berlin during a guided day trip.
  • Potsdam: Day trip to Berlin's noble neighbor to the south.  Potsdam boasts a long history, beautiful villas, multiple parks and lakes to enjoy.
  • Warnemünde: Students will enjoy a day at the beach in this beautiful and lively city on the Baltic Sea.
  • Program Finale: Dresden & Prague! - Once destroyed by firebombs during World War II, Dresden citizens have rebuilt their “old town” to fit its former grandeur.  Students will have the opportunity to see the famous opera house and explore the thriving university section. A short train ride away and you will arrive at the vibrant Czech capital of Prague. Students will experience its breathtaking views and fairy tale architecture.

Housing

You will stay with carefully selected host families. Homestays allow for a deeper immersion into German culture and provide invaluable personal contact with native German speakers. The host families provide your accommodation and meals (breakfast/dinner during the week and breakfast/lunch/dinner on the weekends) for you. Often host families plan activities on the free evenings/weekends for the students. If you have any questions or possible adjustment problems, you can always contact your On-Site Coordinator.
